Lorraine Thayer
Biography
Lorraine Thayer was raised in the Eastern Townships of Quebec where she spent much of her childhood visiting her grandparents’ farm. She spent many hours in the barnyard drawing the resident cattle, pigs, chickens, and horses.
After studying art at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Lorraine took an apprenticeship as a production weaver and wove couturier fabric for Marilyn Blumer Designs of Toronto, Ontario. At this time Lorraine also created her own award winning line of hand woven soft sculpture toy animals which were sold in shops across Canada.
In 2010 Lorraine graduated from the Haliburton School of The Arts with a Visual and Creative Art Diploma.
Lorraine has recently closed her home studio, Bearly Thayer Studio, after almost twenty years of business. The focus of her work has shifted from sales and competitions to full time living and creating. Her family, dog and cattle are in favour of this change.
