So you missed the opening of Paint it Big...that is no biggie because the show runs until April 5th. Also, there will be another opening for the next show in April as the co-operative has a new show every month. You can contact me for information at [email protected] as the Kawartha Arts Network is in transition since their recent incorporation.
This is a little late to be posting an opening, but I want to tell you that The Kawartha Arts Network co-operative hosted an opening last Saturday for their current show, "Paint it Big". Many of the participating artists were present to talk to guests about their work. This is a real plus of a show opening, to speak with the creators of the work and hear firsthand what inspired them and to share your reaction and interpretation of their work. I had a large piece in the show titled "Constellations of Bobcaygeon I", it is my largest collage to date measuring 30" x 22". I just heard last night that I have been accepted to the Victoria County Studio Tour that will be held next fall. The show will be for two weekends, October 4-5 and October 11-12. This will be the 29th year the tour has been held, I was in it way back in my other life, as a weaver, when the show was only 4 and 5 years old.
Studio tours are self guided tours in which guests follow a map that guides them to each participating studio. The map is in a brochure that also has samples of each artist's work and a description of their practice. The brochures are distributed previous to the tour and there is not charge for going on the tour. The studio tour concept is a collective that brings local artists together and pools their advertising resources for the benefit of all. Guests come from near and far and many return annually. In Victoria County there is the added enjoyment of viewing the fall colours. The second weekend is also Thanksgiving weekend so it is a great outing for families who are already gathered to spend the holiday together. You can get more information about the tour @ www.vcstudiotour.com . This week I'll be displaying my work in two locations in Bobcaygeon. The Boyd Art Room at the library and The Grilled Cheese Hideaway Gallery. I am showing my new constellations of Bobcaygeon series of collages and a select number of field collages. The collages themselves are painted with acrylic, nail polish and glitter and have sewing patterns incorporated into the surface. All the collages have wee cows in them, these are the subjects that tell the story of the pieces. The cattle, though in fanciful environments such as floating through the night sky or walking along an instructional line of a sewing pattern, behave and interact like real cattle. Please, if you are in Bobcaygeon, stop by and have a look, take out a book, enjoy a grilled cheese..... la quête du veau
