When I returned to art school at the age of fifty-something I met an artist who changed how I thought about showing my work to the public. He told me that when an artist makes work and puts it out in the world to be seen, it is like someone calling down a drainpipe. "Helloooooooo" he yells, "anybody there?". Very occasionally, if that someone is lucky, someone else calls back "Hello". That is what happens when we put our work out to the world, just occasionally someone gets us and hollers back, hello. Bingo!
The artist I'm referring to was Peter Kolisnyk. He was a sensitive and intuitive artist and art observer who delighted in the simple and the direct. I am indebted to him for so much in my artistic journey.
